Norwegian tax rules for smallscale hydropower remain unchanged

The Norwegian government has rejected the suggestion from the Energy Taxation Commission to reduce the threshold at which land tax is liable from 10 to 5.5MW.

The Norwegian hydropower sector was almost universal in its condemnation of the proposal, which would have sent many small hydropower companies into bankruptcy and discouraged investment in the sector.

The largest company in the Norwegian smallscale hydropower sector, SmÄkraft, published a stinging rebuke to the commission, which can be downloaded here. (Norwegian only).
